THE REPORT ON THE 38th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SOLUTION CHEMISTRY (38ICSC, https://icsc2023.pmf.uns.ac.rs/)
The 38th International Conference on Solution Chemistry (38ICSC) took place from July 9-14, 2023 in Belgrade, Serbia in hotel Metropol Palace. It was organized by two universities (University of Ljubljana and University of Novi Sad) from two countries (Slovenia and Serbia) and was chaired by Professor Marija Bešter-Rogač (University of Ljubljana, Slovenia) and Professor Slobodan Gadžurić (University of Novi Sad, Serbia).
The 38ICSC is a continuation of the successful IUPAC conference series, which brings together new results of our scientific work and presents and discusses the new findings on various scientific and technological issues related to solution chemistry.
The conference covered various scientific topics, including:
· Ionic liquids
· Solution thermodynamics
· Biochemical effects in solutions
· Solubility phenomena and phase equilibria
· Solution structure and dynamics
· Supercritical fluids and solutions under extreme conditions
· Colloids and interfaces
· Computational solution chemistry
· General solution chemistry
· Industrial applications of solutions
The conference was attended by more than 130 registered participants from 30 countries, with all continents represented. The invited speakers delivered 6 plenary and 13 keynote talks.
Plenary lectures:
· Ying Jiang, Beijing University, PR China
· Slavica Ražić University of Belgrade, Serbia

The program (available at https://icsc2023.pmf.uns.ac.rs/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/raspored-2.pdf) was compiled from 66 oral presentations. In addition, 46 posters were presented. All posters were evaluated by six poster evaluators (Domańska-Żelazna Urszula, Buchner Richard, Fedotova Marina, Gama Sofia, Schröder Christian, Sipos Pál and Vargas Edgar) and the five best posters by young researchers were awarded a book voucher of 100 euros, sponsored by SPRINGER. The awarded students (in alphabetical order) are:
· Andrijana Bilić, University of Novi Sad, Serbia
· Domen Goste, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia
· Lukas Magenheim, TU Wien, Austria
· Pavlina Matysova, University Usti nad Labem, Czech Republic
· Aditi Prabhune, Department of Chemistry, Goa, India
During this conference, Glenn Heffter, the IUPAC representative at 38ICSC, gave a presentation on the various activities of IUPAC.
In addition to the busy scientific program, the conference was also rich in social events. The welcome reception was organized on Sunday, July 9, 2023 late evening for all participants in the hotel Metropol. The conference excursion to Golubac Fortress took place on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 in the afternoon. The conference banquet took place on Thursday, July 13 in the evening in the modern national restaurant Ambar, which offers traditional Serbian cuisine. In addition, a program for 10 accompanying persons was held, which included an interesting city tour of Belgrade (Monday, 10 July), an excursion to Sremski Karlovci and Novi Sad (Tuesday, 11 July) and a visit to the Royal Mausoleum in Oplenac (Thursday, 13 July).
38ICSC received financial support from IUPAC, Springer, MDPI, Serbian Ministry of science, technological development and innovations and few companies (Donau Lab, Anlysis, MC Labor).
Springer offers the possibility to publish articles from the conference in a special issue of the Journal of Solution Chemistry after a peer-review process. Plenary and keynote speakers have been invited to publish their papers in a special issue of Pure and Applied Chemistry. Both are edited by Slobodan Gadžurić.
